Bran Castle

Myth or Reality, whatever you choose to believe, Bran Castle or Dracula Castle, as some people call it, has earned his spot on the Top Destinations in Transylvania list!

Bran Castle view

Perched on a hilltop, overlooking the village of Bran, the castle was first of all a humble wooden defense fort built by the Teutonic knights in the 13th century, and then, during the 15th century, the castle was reinforced and later converted as a defensive post against the Ottoman invaders who were trying to cross between Wallachia and Transylvania.

With the time Bran Castle became an important customs check point for traders and in the 1920 was adopted as a residence for the Romanian royal family. Finally it was converted into a museum, open both for those interested in history and for those fascinated by Bram Stocker’s Dracula.

After visiting the castle, at the bottom of the hill, in the garden the guests can find a small Village Museum with different traditional houses and a lovely Tea House.

If you don’t like crowds we recommend visiting the castle during the week and arrive early. To avoid the queue at the gate you can buy the tickets online and print them or have the code ready on your phone. Some temporary exhibitions might  require extra tickets so check before arrival to avoid disappointment.
